Our History
In 2010, LumAware was established in Cincinnati, Ohio. Our first line of LumAware products were illuminating helmet bands and do-it-yourself illuminating epoxy kits that help firefighters deal with disorientation and keep track of their tools even in complete darkness.
The idea was born from our founder’s experience as a veteran and volunteer firefighter. At the time, many industries had no way to illuminate their products, tools or personnel in the dark without an active electrical source. After the events of 9/11, when more than 16,000 people safely evacuated the Twin Towers in the dark thanks to photoluminescent exit path markings, founder Zach Green envisioned the tremendous benefit of photoluminescent technology for several industries, including firefighters’ equipment.
The LumAware product line has since expanded to include photoluminescent exit signs, a cheaper and safer alternative to traditional electric signs that are expensive to install and maintain, and ClearGuard™ , our response to the safety challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our products meet the requirements of the International Building Code®, NFPA®, International Fire Code®, Life Safety Code® and qualify for 3 different LEED credits: EA, MR, and ID.
Thanks to loyal clients and distributors, LumAware has become of the fastest-growing companies in our region. LumAware is recognized worldwide, even receiving the 2019 President’s “E” Award for Exports for demonstrating a sustained increase in export sales over a four-year period.
